As a longtime advocate for pancreatic cancer patients and multi-disciplinary approaches to cancer research, Paula Kim continually works to unify and coordinate the efforts of scientists, industry, and patients.
From 1999-2004 Ms. Kim served as the President and Co-Founder of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Inc. (PanCAN), the disease’s first and only national patient advocacy organization. She created a consulting firm in 2004, Paula Kim Consulting, and now works as the Principal. In addition, she co-founded Translating Research Across Communities (TRAC) in 2005, and now serves as CEO. TRAC uses outreach and educational programs to foster research progress and interaction amongst the patient, research, public, and private communities. Currently, Kim also contributes to a number of cancer initiatives including: the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Board of Scientific Advisors, the NCI Pancreatic Cancer Progress Review Group, the Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) of University of Nebraska Eppley Cancer Center, and the Food and Drug Administration Cancer Drug Development Patient Consultant Program. Kim actively participates with C-Change (Formerly the National Dialogue on Cancer), the National Coalition for Cancer Research, One Voice Against Cancer (OVAC), the National Pancreas Foundation, and Friends of Cancer Research.
Paula Kim, with her diverse background and varied professional activities, plays an integral role in advancing biospecimen research. She collaborates with the science and patient communities, striving for more focus on the world of biobanking, encouraging communication, and raising awareness about the vital links between biospecimens and cancer research.
