Who's Who in Biobanking - Martin Ferguson, Ph.D.

Martin Ferguson, Ph.D.

Martin Ferguson, Ph.D.

Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Consultant

Dr. Ferguson is an independent consultant to pharmaceutical and life science informatics companies, and federal agencies engaged in or supporting translational biomedical research. He focuses on implementing complete ethical, legal, technical, clinical and informatics solutions for human subjects research involving clinically annotated biospecimens. Prior, he was Sr. VP of Bioinformatics at, and a co-founder of, Ardais Corporation, whose mission is to build and deploy annotated biospecimen collection systems in support of molecular medicine R&D. At Ardais, Dr. Ferguson co-developed the bioethical and legal frameworks under which the company worked with academic medical centers to bank “human subjects” data and biospecimens that were then distributed to industry and academic researchers. He directly managed the design, development and deployment of a broad-based software platform that provides end-to-end support for patient enrollment protocols, data collection and sample logistics. Dr. Ferguson received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University, and his B.A. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus on computer science. He has worked as Director of Bioinformatics at Axys Pharmaceuticals (formerly Sequana Therapeutics), a post-doctoral fellow at the Arthropod-borne Infectious Disease Laboratory (a CDC joint facility in Ft. Collins, Colorado), and in a technology transfer/project planning role at the US Department of State/Agency for International Development within the US foreign aid program.
